The work of the Parish Council is varied, but tends to cover a number of common areas including planning, local services, village appearance and environment, safety and security, and the Parish Plan:
If you want to look at the detail of any planning applications, please visit the Sefton Council planning portal at http://pa.sefton.gov.uk/online-applications
The Parish Council’s current planning priority is raising awareness about a planned mobile phone mast, and supporting residents to fight the planning application. The application has been submitted by Clarke Telecomms on behalf of Vodafone based on a site behind the BT Exchange building adjacent to the Village Green. See the latest updates about the campaign on our “Latest news” page.
The biggest current threat to local services is the potential closure of the Hightown Village Surgery on St. George’s Road. The Parish Council is fighting the closure which is proposed by NHS England and South Sefton & Formby CCG, and is continuing to work closely with residents, patients, and the surgery (incl. the Patient Participation Group), Hightown Pharmacy, and also has the full support of Bill Esterson MP, and Sefton Council. See the Village Surgery Campaign link for more detail about proposed NHS plans, key documents, what has been happening so far, and to find out how you can help us with the campaign. You can also read the latest updates on our “Latest News” page.
We have ties with many groups, clubs, and community-led activities; the aim of this part of the website is to bring together the contact details and schedules of meeting dates and times in one place, and also to help these groups promote events, offers, calls to action, and worthy news. See “Useful Links” on the main menu.
Additionally, we list the details of all businesses based in the village (see “Useful Links” ) and, in the longer term, hope to be able to offer some kind of virtual “notice board” feature whereby residents and business owners, groups and clubs can also post news themselves. We think it vitally important the Parish Council actively provides such support and can act as a focal point. More than ever before, the internet provides a key and highly accessible means of communication, and so it is hoped that we can help increase exposure for business owners, and at the same time help get the message out about some of the worthy causes and community activities going on across the village. In the shorter term, we will be happy to receive your requests to advertise notices on your behalf using our “Latest News” page.
